Even indie folk musicians like Bon Iver has taken his second album Bon Iver, to a new level, using vocoder effects in nearly every song. It is becoming the thing to do and the Damien Rice era has been replaced with artists like James Blake.
So who have we got in Ireland to compete in this scene? Well if you like James Blake or Moths, you will love Replete, aka Peter Lawlor. He is an emerging Irish artist from Kilkenny and studying an MA Music Technology in CIT. I discovered him in the Cultivate tent at the Electric Picnic festival this year. The soft atmosphere his music created enticed crowds of chill-wave lovers in to sit and listen. He is consistent with his relaxed, chilled out electro with beats that do nothing but impress. Have a listen to ‘Hits and Misses’, ‘Chill Bro’ and ‘Port’s and see what you think.

Splits
‘Splits’ is an impressive tune. The title fits the track perfectly. With its harsh beginning you feel like you’re in a horror film, but the bass intro changes the mood completely and layers are introduced to bring us back to the soft dreamlike atmosphere. An ambiance very similar to that created by Youth Lagoon.

It’s time this time
His latest track, ‘It’s time this time’ is definitely worth having a listen to. It was out on soundcloud only yesterday and has an upbeat dream-like feel to it that makes you want to slow dance. This is one of my favourite tracks.

So far he has played at The Electric picnic, Dublins South Studios and Kilkennys National Craft gallery. We will definitely be hearing more from Replete as he is quickly finding his own niche in the society of modern electronic music.
